Professional profile

Stefano Nardelli is a veterinarian and the director of the peripheral dianostic laboratory SCT3 – Padova, Vicenza and Rovigo of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie.

Graduated in 1982 by the Parma university, he was awarded a post-doc training in laboratory techniques, Brescia (1983-1984) and a post-doc specialization school in Animal health, university of Pisa (1994-1996). He started working in 1984 by the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe), after that by the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Lombardia e dell’Emilia Romagna (1999-2001) and then again by IZSVe since 2001 to date.

He is responsible of research projects founded by the Italian Ministry of Health on excretion of Schmallenbeg virus in bull semen, evaluation of serological methods for diagnosis of small ruminant lentivirus infections, BVD infection. Other interests concern the validation of diagnostic procedures, the development of computer programs for managing laboratory devices, the setting up of disease control plans at regional level.

He has been national expert in FVO audits carried out in: Latvia, Poland, USA, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Turkey, South Africa. He has been long term / key expert in Ue-founded international cooperation projects (Kosovo, Albania and currently Montenegro). He was tutor in BTSF training course on bovine embryo/ova and semen production and consultant of the Autonomous Province of Trento with regard the data management of IBR – LBE control programs.
He is responsible of the metrological service of the IZSVe.
