Federica Gallocchio is a senior scientist at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe), SCS1- Risk analysis and public health surveillance. She graduated in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Techniques and obtained her PhD in Pharmaceutical Science at Padova University. She completed the specialization diploma in Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Padua in 2012. She has been working at the IZSVe since 2007, where she has been dealing with the development and validation of analytical methods for the detection of organic and inorganic contaminants in food and feed.
Her research field focuses on the development of analytical methods for the detection of inorganic (heavy metals) and organic contaminants (pesticides, PCB, PFAS, biotoxin) in food and feed by means of AAS, ICP-MS, liquid or gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. Since 2013, she has been involved in several projects dealing with the detection and characterization of inorganic nanoparticles in complex matrices by means of AAS, ICP-MS, single particle ICP-MS and hyphenate technique like Asymmetric Field Flow Fractionaction-UV Vis/DLS/ICP-MS.
She is currently involved in the following national research projects: “Nanoparticles bioaccumulation in edible mussels: methodological assessment for the evaluation of environmental and consumers’ exposure”; “Interaction between nanoparticles and pollutants in the marine environment: methodological assessment to evaluate consumers’ exposure trough marine food web”. She has ongoing collaborations with Rikilt-WUR, Institute of Food Safety, Wageningen, the Netherlands; Università degli studi di Padova, Dipartimento di Scienze Farmaceutiche (Italy); Università degli studi di Ferrara, Dipartimento di Scienze Chimiche e Farmaceutiche (Italy).
