Professional profile
Antonia Anna Lettini works at the Biofood Laboratory of the SCS1 – Microbiology Department of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe). She graduated in Biological Sciences from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy) and was awarded her postgraduate diploma in Biotechnological Applications at the University of Bari (Italy). She worked for some years in the framework of research projects in the biomedical sector, specifically in molecular oncology, focusing on molecular biology techniques.
Her research activities are focused on: development of typing and sub-typing methods to characterize bacterial strains, firstly on Salmonella spp. strains within the WOAH and national reference laboratory for Salmonellosis. Furtherly, she is encharged on research projects aiming to identify and characterize by molecular methods foodborne pathogens as Listeria monocytogenes, B. cereus, Yersinia enterocolitica, enteric viruses.
In the framework of activities of Biofood laboratory she is in charge of the management of official controls based on molecular methods: identification of E. coli shiga toxin-producing (STEC); Vibrio cholerae, parahaemolyticus e vulnificus, Norovirus and Hepatitis A virus on food matrices. She coordinates the activities concerning official controls aimed to identify GMOs on food and feed as well as to identify animal species by molecular methods on food matrices. Moreover, she supervises the activities related to assess and develop molecular methods on food safety field for Biofood laboratories network of IZSVe.
