Professional profile
Michela Favretti is a senior veterinary officer at the SCT4 – Udine and Pordenone Territorial Unit of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe).
She graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Padua in 2001 and obtained a postgraduate specialization diploma in Breeding, Hygiene, Pathology of Aquatic Species and Control of Derived Products from the same institution in 2005. From 2006 to 2021, she worked as a senior veterinary officer at SCS8 – Enhancement of Food Production (San Donà di Piave peripheral structure). Since 2022, she has been Head of the Laboratory for Self-checking Systems and Local Production Enhancement within the SCT4. She serves as Quality Assurance Manager for the laboratory and is also Head of the AQUA MA Proficiency Testing Scheme.
Her research interests centre on food safety, the protection of traditional food products, and the simplification of self-checking systems in retail micro-enterprises and small dairies. She has authored good practice manuals for small producers. She has collaborated and continues to collaborate on several current research projects funded by the Italian Ministry of Health regarding food safety.
She works alongside the Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto regional authorities on Small Local Production (Piccole Produzioni Locali) projects, and collaborates with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region on the review of annual sampling plans.
