Professional profile
Amedeo Manfrin is a senior veterinary officer at the SCS4 – Diseases under Surveillance and Specialist Diagnostics Unit of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe), and head of the National Reference Laboratory for Crustacean Diseases.
He holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine with a specialization diploma in Veterinary Public Health, and is an expert in aquaculture, fish pathology, and fish welfare. His research interests focus on the health and welfare of farmed and wild aquatic organisms, as well as the use of pharmaceuticals and vaccines in aquaculture. He is also involved in monitoring and eradication plans for reportable aquatic animal diseases and zoonoses associated with the handling and consumption of fishery products.
He is engaged in national and European research projects on flavobacteriosis in European fish species, the development of vaccination protocols, the implementation of innovative diagnostic techniques, the drafting of monitoring plans for crayfish plague, welfare during fish farming and slaughter, and organic aquaculture.
He is a member of numerous national and international working groups and serves as an adjunct professor in the field of aquatic organism health and welfare.
