Professional profile
Valentina Maria Panzarin is a senior biologist at the SCS6 – Avian Virology Unit of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe).
In 2007, she graduated with a degree in Food Biotechnology from the University of Padua, where she subsequently earned a PhD in Veterinary Sciences in 2016.
For years, her work focused on the genetic, evolutionary, and phenotypic characterisation of viral pathogens in aquatic organisms, as well as molecular epidemiology investigations in aquaculture. Since 2020, she has been coordinating activities aimed at developing and validating fit-for-purpose solutions for the diagnosis and molecular typing of animal viruses, including zoonotic pathogens. Furthermore, she develops assays to evaluate viral phenotypes in in/ex vivo and in vitro models, assess vaccine-induced protection and antiviral efficacy, and detect viral pathogens in environmental matrices.
She serves as a partner in numerous national and international research projects. As part of the National and International Reference Centres for Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease, she provides diagnostic technical support to third-party laboratories. She also regularly contributes as a speaker to training and professional development courses organised by IZSVe and University institutions.
She is the author and co-author of articles in peer-reviewed international journals as well as proceedings of national and international conferences.
