Professional profile

Katia Capello is a senior statistician at the SCD1 – IT, Digitalization, and Research Data Management Unit of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe).

She got a degree in Demographic and Social Statistics at the University of Padua in 2002. After graduation, she attended numerous national and international training courses aimed at further developing her expertise in statistical methodologies for data analysis.

At the IZSVe, she provides technical support to the Strategic Structure and Health Departments in the organization and evaluation of data generated by the Institute’s laboratory information system. She coordinates and manages data analysis and reporting activities, using Business Intelligence tools, to support the surveillance and monitoring of animal diseases and food safety. She is also responsible for coordinating and managing the data required to fulfil information requirements towards the Ministry of Health, National Reference Centres and European institutions.

In the field of statistics, she provides methodological and analytical support for research projects on animal diseases and animal welfare, as well as projects in veterinary oncology. She is co-author of numerous scientific articles published in national and international peer-reviewed journals.

Since 2021 she has been involved in the European project “Provision of technical and scientific support to EFSA for the preparation of the EU One Health Zoonoses Report”, as part of the Work Package on “Data management, data analysis & statistics for the preparation of the EUOHZ-R chapters, including graphs, figures, maps and infographics”. In this role, she participates in numerous national and international meetings.
