Professional profile
Andrea Cereser is the Director of the SCS8 – Agri-Food Chain Business Services Unit at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe).
He graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 1994 from the University of Bologna. Following a short period in clinical practice for livestock and companion animals, he turned his focus exclusively to the hygiene, technology, and processing of foods of animal origin, working as a freelance consultant for agri-food businesses and public institutions.
He broadened his expertise in hygiene self-checking systems, quality control, and quality assurance, working primarily within the meat supply chain, large-scale retail, and mass catering sectors. In 2004, he earned a postgraduate specialization diploma in Inspection of Foods of Animal Origin at the University of Padua. Since 2000, he has collaborated as a trainer and quality management systems auditor (ISO 9000 series standards) with a leading Italian certification body, also covering product certification, controlled supply chains, traceability, HACCP, BRC, IFS (qualified auditor since 2004), and ISO 22000.
For years, he has been engaged in teaching activities for and at various institutions, including veterinary medicine faculties at several Italian Universities, UNI – Italian Standardization Body, WHO – World Health Organization, and regional authorities and local health agencies (ASLs) across Veneto, Sardinia, Calabria, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (frequently under ECM – continuing education accreditation). His lectures cover quality management systems in food companies and veterinary services, self-checking management systems in agri-food businesses, food law, traceability, and auditing.
From 2002 to 2010, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of SIVAR (Italian Society of Farm Animal Veterinarians), and from 2005 to 2010, he was a member of the editorial board of “Large Animal Review”.
He has been a senior officer at IZSVe since May 2006 and served as Quality Manager from 2008 to 2013. In May 2023, following a leave of absence for administrative duties, he has been responsible for the Food Chain Hygiene and Safety Laboratory of the IZSVe (San Donà di Piave, Venice). He was appointed Director of SCS8 in March 2024.
