Professional profile
Giovanni Farina is the Director of the SCT5 – Trento Territorial Unit of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe).
He graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Parma and subsequently obtained a postgraduate specialization diploma in Inspection of Foods of Animal Origin from the University of Pisa. He also completed the managerial training course for complex structure directors at the School of Innovation / Department of Economics and Management of the University of Trento. From December 2020 to 2026, he served as Director of the Food Safety Department at IZSVe.
In the field of food safety, his work involves microbiology and molecular biology laboratory activities aimed at identifying foodborne pathogens, delivering training and consultancy for food industry operators, and managing non-compliances within official food control procedures. In animal health, he is primarily involved in managing national and provincial disease control and eradication plans, as well as maintaining health and hygiene standards on farms.
He has extensive teaching experience in Continuing Medical Education (ECM) events and professional development courses. He also serves as a mentor for trainees based at the IZSVe peripheral section in Trento.
