Professional profile
Francesca Lega is a senior chemist at the SCS2 – Chemistry Unit of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe).
She graduated in Chemistry from the University of Padua and obtained a postgraduate specialization diploma in Food Chemistry and Technology from the University of Bologna. From 1997 to 2005, she worked as a chemist in the private sector, managing both the analysis of water and beverages and team coordination. In 2005, she joined IZSVe as a senior chemist in the Anabolics drugs Laboratory of SCS2 – Chemistry, and in 2010 became the Quality Assurance Officer for the structure. She is currently Head of the Anabolic Substances, Toxins, and Allergens Laboratory within SCS2.
Her research interests focus on drug and anabolic residues in animal matrices and foods of animal origin, aiming both to develop more effective and efficient analytical methods and to investigate potential criteria for identifying illicit treatments.
She is actively involved in the development, validation, and accreditation of analytical methods for detecting anabolic residues in animal matrices using HPLC-MS/MS, both for ongoing research projects and official control testing. Additionally, she collaborates on maintaining and implementing the Quality System for her department and the Institute.
