Professional profile
Antonia Anna Lettini is a senior biologist at the SCS1 – General and Experimental Microbiology for Food Safety Unit of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe).
She earned her degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and completed a postgraduate specialization diploma in Biotechnology Applications at the University of Bari. She worked for several years in the medical sector focusing on molecular oncology, gaining expertise in and specializing in molecular biology techniques.
Regarding research activities she coordinates work involving molecular methods for typing and subtyping Salmonella strains as part of the activities of the National Reference Centre for Salmonellosis. She also coordinates testing aimed at identifying and subtyping other foodborne pathogens, such as Listeria monocytogenes, Bacillus cereus, Yersinia enterocolitica, and enteric viruses.
In relation to the routine activities she oversees food testing for the detection of verotoxigenic E. coli (VTEC/STEC); Vibrio cholerae, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and Vibrio vulnificus; enteric viruses; and animal species identification.
She coordinates activities related to the detection of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food and feed.
