Professional profile

Marianna Merenda is a senior veterinary officer at the SCT1 – Verona Territorial Unit of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe).

After graduating in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Parma in 2002, she obtained a postgraduate specialization diploma in Animal Health, Breeding, and Livestock Production from the same institution in 2006.

From 2002 to 2008, she collaborated with the Diagnostic Laboratory at the Parma peripheral section of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Lombardia e dell’Emilia Romagna (IZSLER), and subsequently worked with the Serology Laboratory and Central Sample Reception at IZSVe’s headquarters in Legnaro. From 2008 to 2019, she served as a senior veterinary officer at IZSLER, working across the peripheral sections in Piacenza, Parma, and Mantua. She also held the role of Quality Assurance Officer for the Parma peripheral section from 2013 to 2019.

She is currently head of the Clinical Diagnostics Laboratory at the SCT1 – Verona.

Throughout her career, her work has focused on the diagnosis of infectious diseases in livestock, particularly in cattle and pigs. Her current research interests centre on histopathological and bacteriological diagnostics, with a specific focus on avian and swine pathology, as well as the diagnosis of animal mycoplasmosis. She is actively involved in research projects funded by the Italian Ministry of Health as principal investigator or operating unit head.
