Nicola Pozzato is a senior veterinary officer at the SSDT3 – Padua and Vicenza Unit of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe).
He holds a PhD in Comparative Pathology of Domestic and Wild Animals, a specialization in Breeding, Hygiene, Pathology of Aquatic Species and Control of Derived Products, and a Level II Master’s Degree in Veterinary Forensic Sciences.
His professional activity is focused on post-mortem examinations (autopsies/necropsies) and consultancy for cases submitted by judicial police officers or involving potential legal implications, as well as diagnostic support for paratuberculosis (Johne’s disease) in ruminants. He serves as the key contact person for veterinary forensic medicine across IZSVe’s jurisdiction, providing technical support to judicial police investigations involving domestic animals and wildlife.
In terms of research, his primary interests involve improving diagnostic and procedural methods in cases of animal poisoning and providing diagnostic support for bovine diseases. He coordinates research projects on animal poisoning and actively participates in a European network focused on bovine disease control. In addition, he collaborates with the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Naples and with the Italian National Reference Centres for Veterinary Forensic Medicine and Paratuberculosis.
