Professional profile
Laura Viel is a veterinary officer at the SCT2 – Treviso and Belluno Territorial Unit of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe).
She graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Bologna in 1991, later specializing in Avian and Rabbit Technology and Pathology (University of Milan, 1996) and Veterinary Public Health (University of Milan, 1998). In 2019, she obtained a Level II Master’s Degree in Veterinary Forensic Sciences from the University of Naples.
She has gained significant professional experience in laboratory diagnostics and food microbiology at the IZSVe Belluno peripheral section, which she directed from 2003 to 2012. From 2000 to 2012, she served as Quality Assurance Officer for the Belluno peripheral section. Since 2013, she has participated in various diagnostic, quality, and safety activities at the Treviso peripheral section, with a focus on companion animal pathologies and animal poisoning cases. She currently serves as Quality Assurance Officer for the Treviso peripheral section.
She has collaborated on several provincial and Interreg projects aimed at monitoring and promoting mountain pasture dairy products. She has worked with local health authorities (ASLs) in the province of Belluno and trade associations to draft manuals for self-checking activities for alpine dairy farming and honey production, as well as with the Veneto Region to create a self-monitoring manual for mountain farmhouses. She currently collaborates with the Departmental Specialized Centre for Companion Animals at IZSVe and is a founding member of the Italian Society of Veterinary Forensic Sciences.
She has contributed to research projects funded by the Italian Ministry of Health concerning the promotion of traditional dairy products, the study of innovative packaging to enhance food safety and shelf-life, and the prevalence of MRSA in companion and livestock animals.
