Professional profile
Cristiana Benetti is a senior executive chemist at the SCS2 Chemistry Unit of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe).
She graduated in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Techniques (1997) and than specialized in Chemistry and food technology (2000) and in Chemical methods of control and analysis (2003).
She has gained extensive experience in the development and validation of analytical methods using sample preparation techniques such as LLE, SPE, and QuEChERS, alongside instrumental determination techniques including ELISA, HPLC-DAD/FL, and HPLC-MS/MS. She possesses a thorough knowledge of the institutional and legal frameworks governing national residue monitoring plans. She is an expert in international accreditation processes under ISO/IEC 17025 standards and in statistical methods applied to the validation and quality control of analytical data.
Since 1998, her work in analytical chemistry has primarily focused on veterinary drug residues (quinolones, tetracyclines, sulfonamides, banned substances, anthelmintics, coccidiostats, triphenylmethane dyes, etc.) and various contaminants (PAHs, carbamates, ITX, fipronil, biotoxins) in food products. Since 2007, she has broadened her expertise to specialized areas such as the identification of irradiated foods using chemical methods (GC-MS).
She served as principal investigator for the research project RC IZSVe 10/17 titled “Development of innovative protocols based on multi-residue and multi-class methods for screening analysis of antibiotics in animal feed and animal tissues for supply chain monitoring”, and as operational unit head for the research project RC IZSVe 17/15 titled “Study of the correlation between toxic algal blooms and toxin accumulation in farmed molluscs in production areas of the Veneto Region”.
