Avian Flu Data Portal (eurlaidata.izsvenezie.it), an informative web application where all the main official data about epidemic of High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (HPAI) in Europe are collected and updated daily, is now online.

The web portal was developed by the European Union Reference Laboratory for Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease (EURL AI/ND) of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe) within Work Programme 2022 co-funded by the European Commission (EC). It was designed and will be mainly administered by the GIS and Epidemiology Units of the IZSVe.

The main purpose of the Avian Flu Data Portal is to provide a public, comprehensive and timely epidemiological update on HPAI virus detections in Europe, collecting all the data relating to the epidemics of this disease that have occurred in recent years. Organized in tables, graphics and maps, these data can help health organizations and other stakeholders within the Member States to be prepared for the incursions and spread of avian influenza viruses in their countries, and to plan the preventive and control measures better adapted to each specific geographical area.

Avian Flu Data Portal (eurlaidata.izsvenezie.it) is an informative web application where all the main official data about epidemic of High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (HPAI) in Europe are collected and updated daily. The data are selected, organized and displayed in tables, graphics and maps, and each element is interactive: by applying filters and selections the user can quickly create subsets of information focusing on its specific interest.

Available data

Data on HPAI outbreaks are retrieved from ADIS – Animal Disease Information System, the European Union official system used by Member States to send immediate notifications and follow-ups about infectious animal diseases. Such data are selected, organized and displayed to allow a rapid, objective, and quick browsing of the temporal and spatial patterns of AIV detections, and include:

  • tables summarizing AI cases per reporting countries, epidemiological unit affected (farm, backyard, captive birds, wild birds) and virus subtype;
  • epidemic curves;
  • maps showing the geographical distributions.

Interactivity and updates

Each element is interactive and by applying filters and selections, the user can quickly create subsets of information focusing on its specific interest. A dynamic map displaying the temporal evolution of the HPAI cases according to the filters applied is also available.

Data are updated daily and no registration is required. The URL of the portal is https://eurlaidata.izsvenezie.it,and a link to it will remain available in the page of the IZSVe website about updates on the epidemiological situation of avian influenza in Europe.
