“Science in action”: this is the theme of the 2025 edition of World Food Safety Day (WFSD), an initiative promoted by the World Health Organization that is celebrated every year on June 7th
Science is at the heart of food safety: scientific knowledge is the key element to understanding what makes food safe, preventing foodborne diseases, reducing waste, and ensuring food security. The Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (IZSVe) joins the WFSD by supporting the multi-actor initiative promoted by the EU Food Safety Platform, which during the week leading up to June 7th will offer a daily contribution dedicated to food safety.
Key messages
Webinars, infographics, social media cards, and numerous other contributions, proposed by the members of the EU Food Safety Platform, will address the key messages of the WFSD 2025, namely:
- If it is not safe, it is not food
- Science is fundamental to food safety
- Education is key
- Everyone is a risk manager
- There is no science without data
- There are many scientific disciplines behind food safety
IZSVe Iniziatives
The IZSVe will participate in the initiatives of the EU Food Safety Platform with two contributions:
- on June 2nd, with the promotion of the educational manual Risk Assessment and Communication in Food Safety – an initiative in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Health
- on June 6th, with the presentation of foodsrisks.eu, a website where it is possible to consult essential information on health risks related to food consumption
